chatgpt.com

What it is

OpenAI's ChatGPT. It adds utm_source=chatgpt.com to links it cites, so the visit can also show up under that UTM source. The old chat.openai.com address now redirects to chatgpt.com.

Why there's no full URL

Browsers share only the origin cross-site by default, so the conversation URL isn't passed on. The utm_source tag is in your page's URL, not the referrer.

What traffic it represents

Clicks on links to your site that ChatGPT cited or suggested in an answer.

In Vireo

Vireo recognises this referrer as ChatGPT and counts these visits on the AI assistants card, next to the pages AI crawlers took from your site. It works on history you've already collected, not only from the day you install. See how it looks.

Sources

ChatGPT automatically includes the UTM parameter utm_source=chatgpt.com in referral URLs
