Switch from Plausible Analytics

Plausible lets you export a site as a zip of CSV files. Vireo's Plausible importer reads that export, so there's no API key to hand over, and it works the same for Plausible Cloud and self-hosted Community Edition.

How it works
Reads a Plausible CSV export you upload
Where
Vireo Analytics, then Settings, then Import & export
Cost
Free. Importers are part of the free plugin.

What carries over

  • Daily visitors and pageviews
  • Pages
  • Referrers, when the export includes their addresses
  • Countries
  • Device types

What doesn't

  • Entry and exit pages
  • Browsers and operating systems. Plausible exports them separately from device type, and Vireo stores the three together, so imported days show them as Unknown.
  • Goals, custom events and custom properties
  • Referrers the export names without an address (for example just "Google"). Vireo stores referrers by domain, so those have nothing to attach to.

What you need

  • A Plausible CSV export, as the zip file or the CSV files inside it

Steps

  1. In Plausible, open the site, then Site settings, then Imports & Exports.
  2. Under Export data, start an export. Plausible emails a link to a zip file when it's ready.
  3. In WordPress, go to Vireo Analytics, then Settings, then the Import & export tab. Choose Plausible Analytics.
  4. Upload the zip as it is. If you already unzipped it, select the CSV files instead.
  5. Optionally pick a date range, or leave it empty to import every day in the export, then start the import.
  6. The screen lists anything in the export that Vireo can't store before it imports.

Before you start

  • Imports stop the day before Vireo's own data begins, and the import screen says which day that is, so days Vireo already counted aren't added twice. You can include those days anyway, with a warning that they'll be counted twice.
  • The uploaded file is read once and deleted. Nothing is sent to Plausible.
  • Vireo counts a visitor once per day, so a month's visitor total in Vireo is the sum of the daily figures.
  • Importing the same dates twice adds the numbers twice. Vireo asks before you import a range that overlaps one you already brought in.
  • If your server can't open zip files, unzip the export on your computer and upload the CSV files.

After the import

Imported days sit in the same tables as the traffic Vireo records itself, so your charts run straight through from the old tool to the new one. From there, Vireo also shows the Search Console searches that found each post, and what AI crawlers take from your site against the readers AI assistants send back. Bots are kept out of the numbers and listed by category so you can see what was filtered.
