Switch from Cloudflare Web Analytics

Cloudflare Web Analytics measures visits with a JavaScript beacon, added automatically on sites Cloudflare proxies or by a snippet you paste, and shows them in the Cloudflare dashboard. Vireo has no importer for it, so its history stays with Cloudflare, and Vireo's charts start on the day you install it.

How it works
There's no Cloudflare Web Analytics importer. Vireo counts from the day you install it.
Cost
Free. Vireo Analytics is free on WordPress.org.

What carries over

  • Your Google Analytics 4 history, if the site also ran GA4, through the Google Analytics importer
  • Google searches from the last 90 days, once you connect Search Console

What doesn't

  • Cloudflare Web Analytics' history: visits, page views, pages, referrers, countries and devices

What you get with Vireo

  • Visits counted on your own server and stored in your WordPress database, with no cookies on visitors' devices
  • Your history kept for as long as you choose, two years by default, in your own database
  • The Google searches behind each post, from Search Console, on that post's stats screen
  • What AI crawlers take from your site, next to the readers AI assistants send back
  • Bots kept out of the numbers and listed by category, so you can see what was filtered

What you give up

  • Cloudflare's dashboard and the analytics it shows next to your other Cloudflare settings
  • Counting sites that aren't WordPress for free in any number. Vireo counts one connected site free, and Vireo Pro has more.

What you need

  • Nothing from Cloudflare. If you want a copy of its numbers, Cloudflare's GraphQL Analytics API is the way to get them.

Steps

  1. Install Vireo Analytics from WordPress.org on the same site. It starts counting from that day. Cloudflare Web Analytics can keep running alongside it while you compare the two.
  2. If the site ran GA4, import that history. In WordPress, go to Vireo Analytics, then Settings, then the Import & export tab. Choose Google Analytics and follow the Google Analytics guide.
  3. To bring in searches, open the Search Console & API tab in Vireo's settings, give a service account Restricted access in Search Console, paste its key and the property exactly as Search Console lists it, and save. Then click "Fetch the last 90 days".
  4. When you're ready, turn off Web Analytics for the site in the Cloudflare dashboard, or remove the beacon snippet if you pasted it in yourself.

Before you start

  • Cloudflare keeps Web Analytics data for six months and samples it, so its numbers are estimates and older months disappear on their own.
  • Vireo can use Cloudflare's own bot signals. On a site behind Cloudflare, requests it marks as a verified bot, challenges or scores as a likely threat are kept out of Vireo's numbers.
  • Expect the two tools' numbers to differ. Vireo counts each visitor once per day and keeps bots out by user agent before any JavaScript runs.
