Switch from Simple Analytics
Simple Analytics counts visits on its own servers without cookies and shows them in its own dashboard. Vireo has no Simple Analytics importer, so your history stays in Simple Analytics, and Vireo's charts start on the day you install it.
- How it works
- There's no Simple Analytics importer. Vireo counts from the day you install it.
- Cost
- Free. Vireo Analytics is free on WordPress.org.
What carries over
- Your Google Analytics 4 history, if the site also ran GA4, through the Google Analytics importer
- Google searches from the last 90 days, once you connect Search Console
What doesn't
- Simple Analytics' history: pageviews, visitors, pages, referrers, countries, devices, events and campaigns. Vireo can't read its exports.
- Its goals, events and their metadata
What you get with Vireo
- Visits counted on your own server and stored in your WordPress database, with no cookies on visitors' devices
- The Google searches behind each post, from Search Console, on that post's stats screen
- What AI crawlers take from your site, next to the readers AI assistants send back
- Bots kept out of the numbers and listed by category, so you can see what was filtered
- Views per post in the WordPress Posts list, and a Popular posts block built from the same counts
What you give up
- Your Simple Analytics history in the same charts as your new numbers
- Raw pageview exports. Vireo keeps daily totals and exports those as CSV, with nothing about a single visit.
- Its dashboard outside WordPress. Vireo Pro adds read-only share links for people without a login.
What you need
- A copy of your Simple Analytics history, if you want to keep it after your subscription ends
Steps
- Install Vireo Analytics from WordPress.org on the same site. It starts counting from that day. Simple Analytics can keep running alongside it while you compare the two.
- Download the history you want to keep. Simple Analytics exports raw pageviews as CSV from its dashboard and through its Export API.
- If the site ran GA4 before, import that history. In WordPress, go to Vireo Analytics, then Settings, then the Import & export tab. Choose Google Analytics and follow the Google Analytics guide.
- To bring in searches, open the Search Console & API tab in Vireo's settings, give a service account Restricted access in Search Console, paste its key and the property exactly as Search Console lists it, and save. Then click "Fetch the last 90 days".
- Remove the Simple Analytics script, or deactivate its WordPress plugin if you added it that way. Then close the site in Simple Analytics.
Before you start
- Expect the two tools' visitor numbers to differ. Each counts unique visitors its own way, and Vireo counts each visitor once per day.
- The CSV export is yours to keep, but nothing in Vireo reads it, so the old months won't show in Vireo's charts.
