Switch from Independent Analytics

Independent Analytics stores each view with its page and session. Vireo reads those tables to rebuild daily pageviews, daily visitors and per-page numbers.

How it works
Reads Independent Analytics's tables in your WordPress database

Cost
Free. Importers are part of the free plugin.

What carries over

  • Daily pageviews and visitors
  • Pageviews per page, with the post they belong to

What doesn't

  • Referrers, countries and devices. The Independent Analytics importer brings across daily totals and pages only.
  • Anything else the old plugin recorded, such as goals, events or campaign reports, stays where it is. Vireo keeps daily totals, pages, referrers, countries and devices.

What you need

  • Independent Analytics' tables in the same database

Steps

  1. Install Vireo Analytics from WordPress.org on the same site. In WordPress, go to Vireo Analytics, then Settings, then the Import & export tab. Choose Independent Analytics.
  2. Check how many records it found and start the import.
  3. When it finishes, deactivate Independent Analytics whenever you're ready.

Before you start

  • The two plugins define a visitor differently. On a default install, Independent Analytics recognises the same visitor across months, while Vireo counts a visitor once per day. Imported days use distinct visitors per day, so monthly visitor totals read higher in Vireo than they did in Independent Analytics. That's the difference in definition, not a fault in the import.
  • The old plugin's tables are only read. Nothing in them is changed or deleted.
  • The old plugin can be active or deactivated, but its database tables have to still be there. Some plugins delete their data when uninstalled, so import before you remove it.
  • Importing is additive. Running the same import twice counts that history twice, and there's no undo, so run it once.
  • Imports stop the day before Vireo's own data begins, and the import screen says which day that is, so days Vireo already counted aren't added twice. You can include those days anyway, with a warning that they'll be counted twice.

After the import

Imported days sit in the same tables as the traffic Vireo records itself, so your charts run straight through from the old tool to the new one. From there, Vireo also shows the Search Console searches that found each post, and what AI crawlers take from your site against the readers AI assistants send back. Bots are kept out of the numbers and listed by category so you can see what was filtered.
