The digest is off by default. It’s built and sent by your own WordPress site, with no outside service involved.
Turn it on
- Go to Vireo Analytics, Settings, and open the Email digest tab.
- Tick “Send the digest”.
- Pick a Frequency: Daily, Weekly or Monthly.
- Under Recipients, add one email address per line. Leave it blank to send to the site’s admin email address.
- Under When, pick the Hour. For Weekly, also pick the Day. The hour is in your site’s timezone, shown under the fields. The default is Monday at 9:00.
- Click “Save settings”.
What’s in it
The period depends on the Frequency:
- Daily: every morning, covering the day before, compared with the day before that.
- Weekly: on the Day you picked, covering the last seven full days, compared with the seven before.
- Monthly: on the first of each month, covering the month before, compared with the month before that.
The email opens with “Your day on”, “Your week on” or “Your month on” and your site’s name, then:
- a one-line summary of what changed since the previous period
- up to three highlights, such as your best week so far or a post passing a round number of views
- Pageviews and Visitors, with the change on the previous period
- Top Pages, Top Referrers and Top Countries
- a “View full dashboard” link
The subject line reads “[your site name] Daily Analytics:”, “Weekly Analytics:” or “Monthly Analytics:” followed by the date or dates.
Branding
The email can carry a logo, an accent colour for the button, and a footer that does or doesn’t name Vireo. By default it has no logo, a dark navy button and the Vireo name in the footer. Vireo Pro’s white-label settings fill these in. A developer can set them with the vireo_email_brand filter.
Send a test
On the same tab, under Test email, click “Send test email”. It sends the digest for the last finished period to your own address straight away, outside the schedule.
If it doesn’t arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder. If it isn’t there either, your host isn’t delivering mail sent from WordPress, which also affects password resets and every other email your site sends. An SMTP plugin such as WP Mail SMTP or FluentSMTP usually fixes it. The settings screen tells you whether WordPress handed the email over, and the mail system’s error if it couldn’t.
Scheduled tasks
The digest goes out through WordPress’s scheduled tasks. On a site with little traffic and no server cron, it can arrive later than the hour you picked.
Vireo Pro
With Vireo Pro active, the Pro report is sent in place of this digest, on the same schedule and to the same recipients, so nobody gets two emails. It can be written up by AI, and the Reports screen keeps a history of sends and a preview. Pro also adds traffic alerts.
