Import from Plausible

Upload the export file from Plausible Analytics to bring your daily traffic, pages, referrers, countries, devices, goals and events into Vireo.

On this page

No API key or Plausible account details are needed. You download an export from Plausible and upload it to WordPress.

What comes across

Daily pageviews and visitors, your pages, referrers, countries, device types, and goals and custom events. Outbound link clicks, file downloads and form submissions become the same events Vireo records itself, and 404 events are listed under missing pages.

Browsers and operating systems aren’t imported. Plausible exports them separately from device type, and Vireo stores the three together, so for imported days they show as Unknown. Entry and exit pages and custom properties aren’t imported either.

Get the export

  1. In Plausible, open the site, then Site settings, then Imports & Exports.
  2. Under Export data, start an export. Plausible emails you a link to a zip file when it’s ready.
  3. Download the zip.

Upload it

  1. In WordPress, go to Vireo Analytics, Settings, Import & export, and click “Import from Plausible Analytics”.
  2. Choose the zip under “Plausible export (.zip or .csv files)”. If you’ve already unzipped it, select the CSV files instead.
  3. Optionally set a Start date and End date. Leave both empty to import every day in the export.
  4. Click “Start import”.

The file is read once and then deleted. Nothing is sent to Plausible.

The screen shows the largest upload your server accepts. If the zip is bigger, raise the upload limit with your host. If the screen says the server can’t open zip files, unzip the export on your computer and upload the CSV files.

A second export

Once one export is in, “Import another export” takes a later one, for dates not imported yet. Dates you’ve already imported are refused unless you tick the box to import them again, which adds them twice.

If Vireo already has its own numbers, the import stops the day before they begin. See How importing works.

In depth

The Plausible switching guide compares the two tools’ numbers.
