With Pro active, the Overview gets these cards. They follow the date range at the top of the page and cover your WordPress site only, not connected sites.
- Campaigns tab: UTM campaigns, goals, outbound clicks, top downloads and revenue.
- Content tab: site search, engagement, top authors, pageviews by post type, top categories and tags, entry and exit pages, and cities.
- Page speed tab: slowest pages to load.
UTM campaigns
Visits from links tagged with utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign, by Source, Medium and Campaign, with Visitors and Pageviews.
https://example.com/launch/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=october
The campaign is taken from the first page of a visit. The same tags feed revenue by source.
Site search
What people searched for with your site’s own search: each Query, how many Searches, and the most Results it returned. A query searched several times that returned nothing is flagged “no results”, which is usually a post worth writing or a word worth adding.
Outbound clicks
Clicks on links that lead off your site, by Destination. Below them, “Affiliate clicks” counts clicks on your own redirect links under /recommends/ and /go/.
Top downloads
Clicks on links to PDFs, ZIPs, audio, video and other files, by File. A developer can change the file types with the vireo_download_extensions filter.
Pro handles outbound clicks and downloads itself, so the free plugin’s Outbound links auto-event is switched off while Pro is active.
Engagement
“average time reading”, “average scroll depth” and how many pages were measured, then each Page with its Time and Scroll.
Time is active time only: the timer pauses while the tab is in the background. Each visit sends one measurement as the reader leaves the page. Visitors who asked not to be tracked aren’t measured, and from Pro 1.4.2 the measurement waits for consent when your site asks for it.
With Vireo Analytics 0.13.0 or later and Pro 1.4.2 or later, the free plugin measures the time and Pro measures scroll depth only. The card’s time then comes from the free plugin, so it matches the Time on page card on the Overview. For a date range the free plugin has no time for at all, such as one that ends before you updated, the card shows the time Pro recorded itself, so that history stays readable. When neither has any time for the range, the card leaves out the time and the Time column and shows scroll depth only. A page with no time of its own shows a dash. With an older free plugin, Pro measures both as before.
The Engagement card doesn’t follow the dashboard’s country, device or source filters: it always covers the whole site.
Top authors
Each author’s Posts, Pageviews and “Avg / post” for the range.
Slowest pages to load
Each Page’s load time for the slowest pages, from real visits, with “Visits measured”. Pages with fewer than ten measured visits are left out: one unlucky visitor on bad wifi isn’t a slow page. Per-page speed history is kept for 180 days. The site-wide numbers are on the Page speed tab.
Cities
Visitors and Pageviews by Place: city and region. It needs the city database, a separate and larger download from the country one.
Go to Settings, Tracking, Geo-location, and under “City database” click “Download city database”. It’s DB-IP City Lite (CC BY 4.0), with no account needed. “Update city database” fetches a newer copy later. Until it’s installed, visits are reported by country only.
Pageviews by post type
How pageviews split between posts, pages and your custom post types, with the number of posts in each.
Top categories and tags
The ten categories and ten tags whose posts were read most. A developer can add custom taxonomies with the vireo_tracked_taxonomies filter.
Entry and exit pages
“Top entry pages”, the pages visits started on, and “Top exit pages”, where they ended. Pages where many visits also ended are marked “high exit”, with the share of entries that left from the same page.
Where people go next
Pro also records which page people open after each page. It’s available from the command line as wp vireo paths.
More in What changed
On the Overview tab, What changed lists up to ten pages and sources that gained and lost, instead of three.
On WordPress 7.0 or newer with an AI provider set up under Settings, Connectors, Pro also writes a sentence or two under the summary line at the top of the Overview, explaining what changed. It works only from the numbers already on screen. Without a provider it shows nothing.
