Vireo Pro asks ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini the questions your customers would ask and records whether each answer mentions your site or links to it. It’s a card called “What AI assistants say about you” on the Search & AI tab of the Overview, below the AI visibility monitoring card.
The free plugin’s AI reporting shows what AI took from your site and what it sent back. This shows what the assistants say when someone asks.
Connect the providers
Vireo doesn’t ask for API keys of its own. It uses the providers connected under Settings > Connectors in WordPress, and the card lists each one as “connected” or “not connected”: ChatGPT (OpenAI), Claude (Anthropic) and Gemini (Google). Only connected providers are asked. With none connected the card says so and links to Settings > Connectors, and “Run now” has nothing to send.
Your WordPress version has to provide the AI client those connectors belong to. Without it every provider shows “not connected”.
Set it up
Administrators see a Settings section at the bottom of the card. It’s open on its own until the first answers arrive.
- Brand name: how an answer has to name you to count as a mention. It starts as your site title.
- What the site is, and where: one line such as “handmade ceramics in Lisbon”, up to 200 characters. It starts as your site’s tagline and shapes the default category question.
- Questions customers ask: up to five, 200 characters each. Write
{brand}where your brand name should go. Each question is sent exactly as written, with no instructions about how to answer. Leave all five blank to use the defaults: “What is {brand}?” and, when there’s a description, “What are the best choices for” followed by it. - Run the check on a schedule: off until you tick it, then Monthly or Weekly. The first scheduled check starts within the hour of saving.
- Stop after ___ calls a month: starts at 100, up to 1,000. 0 means no limit.
- Alert me when an assistant stops mentioning or linking to my site: off until you tick it. See below.
Click “Save settings”. “Run now” starts a check straight away, for administrators, whether or not the schedule is on. If you run it twice in a day, the second run replaces that day’s answer for each question it asks again.
What a check does
A check asks every question of every connected provider, so three providers and two questions make six calls. The card shows the number a run makes and how many calls you’ve used this month. The checks run in the background, a couple of calls at a time, and the card shows “Asking: 3 of 6 done” while one is under way.
Vireo scores each answer by matching text. It doesn’t ask a second model to judge the first one.
- Mentioned: the answer names your brand, or writes out your domain. Matching ignores case, and a brand has to stand on its own: “Vireo” doesn’t match “Vireonic”. A domain matches with or without
www.and on subdomains, but not as part of another domain. - Cited: your domain is among the sources the provider returned, or it’s written out as a link in the answer. A bare mention of your domain in a sentence counts as mentioned, not cited.
- Not mentioned: neither.
A question that names your brand or domain, such as the default “What is {brand}?”, gets your name back in almost any answer, so it only counts when the answer links to you. Its cells show Cited or Not linked instead of Mentioned or Not mentioned.
Cited ranks above mentioned, and mentioned above not mentioned. From the second check on, a cell that moved up a level since the check before shows “Up” and one that moved down shows “Down”. A question or provider that wasn’t answered both times shows no change. The note under the table says which earlier check the changes compare with.
Web search or memory
Each answer is labelled “with web search” or “from the model’s memory”. Vireo asks for web search when the provider has a model that offers it. An answer with web search can name current pages and link to them. An answer from memory reflects what the model learned in training, which may predate your site’s latest pages, and rarely carries links. The label sits beside the model’s name above each answer, so you can read a “Not mentioned” from memory differently from one that had search on.
Read the answers
The table shows one row per question and one column per provider, with a badge in each cell: Cited, Mentioned or Not mentioned, or Not linked for a question that names your brand. Under it, “The answers” has a section for each question. Open one to read each provider’s answer, up to its first 2,000 characters, with the sources it returned as links. Answers are stored for a year.
Some calls fail. The card names the provider and the reason: the provider rejected the key, rate limited, the request timed out, out of quota or credit, no text came back, or the call failed. A run where every call fails tries again the next day instead of waiting out the month or the week.
Cost
The calls go to your own provider accounts and are billed there. Vireo can’t see what they cost, so the limit counts calls, not money. When the month’s count reaches the limit, the run stops early and the card says so. Raise the limit or wait for the next month. Setting the limit to 0 removes it, and the card then shows the calls used with “no limit set”.
With the default two questions and all three providers connected, a run is six calls: about six a month on the monthly schedule and around 26 on the weekly one, well inside the default limit of 100. Each answer is capped at 1,500 tokens.
Privacy
Your questions go to the providers you’ve connected, and nothing else does. Vireo sends the question text and nothing about your visitors, your pageviews or your site’s content. The answers come back and are stored in your WordPress database. A failed call is stored only as one of the reasons listed above, never the provider’s own error message.
The mention alert
With “Alert me when an assistant stops mentioning or linking to my site” ticked, Vireo sends one note after a check when an assistant that mentioned or linked to you for a question last time does neither now. An answer that drops your name but still links to you doesn’t count as a loss. It lists each assistant and question. An answer that failed to arrive isn’t a loss, and neither is a question that’s new. A question where you stay missing over later checks doesn’t repeat the note, and it can alert again after the assistant has mentioned or linked to you once more.
The alert goes to the channels set up on the Reports screen: email, Slack and webhook, as described in Traffic alerts. With no channel saved, nothing is sent. The webhook event is ai_answers_mention_lost. It isn’t sent to WPShake.
