No visits at all
- Visit your site in a private window. Your own visits don’t count while you’re logged in as an administrator.
- Wait a minute or two. Views reach the database once a minute through WordPress’s scheduled tasks, so a site with very little traffic and no server cron can take longer.
- Clear your page cache. Pages cached before you installed Vireo don’t carry the tracker.
- View the page source and look for
tracker.js. If it’s missing, your theme or page builder may not callwp_footer(). Add<?php do_action( 'vireo_print_tracking_script' ); ?>before</body>in that template. - Check Tools, Site Health for “Vireo Analytics is recording visits”.
Fewer visits than another tool or my server logs
That’s usually Vireo leaving out bots, repeat views and visitors who asked not to be tracked. The line under the totals on the Overview says how many requests it kept out, and why. See What’s counted.
Monthly Visitors can also differ because Vireo counts a visitor once per day and adds the days up.
Some visitors don’t show up
- Visitors with Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control turned on aren’t counted.
- An IP address, path or country you excluded under Settings, Tracking is dropped.
- If a consent plugin is active and you’ve turned on
vireo_require_consent, visitors who haven’t given statistics consent aren’t counted. - A monitoring tool or script may be filtered as a bot. Paste its user agent into Settings, Tracking, Bot filter test.
Countries show as unknown
Your host doesn’t pass a country to WordPress and no country database is installed. Go to Settings, Tracking, Geo-location and click “Download country database”. See Countries and devices.
All visitors look like one person or a few
Your site is probably behind a proxy or load balancer, so Vireo sees the proxy’s address for everyone. See Behind a proxy.
A post’s stats are empty
On a headless front end, check the post’s path matches WordPress’s, or add <meta name="vireo:post-id">. See Headless front ends.
Per-post referrers start from the day that feature arrived on your site; the card says so.
Search Console shows nothing
- The property must match Search Console exactly, including
sc-domain:for a domain property or the trailing slash for a URL-prefix one. - The service account must be added as a user on that property.
- Google’s data runs about three days behind, so the newest days are always empty.
The Search Console & API tab shows Google’s error if the last sync failed. See Search Console.
The weekly email doesn’t arrive
Click “Send test email” under Settings, Email digest. The screen says whether WordPress handed the email to your server’s mail system. If it did and nothing arrived, your host isn’t delivering WordPress mail; an SMTP plugin usually fixes that. See Email digest.
An imported day looks doubled
An import adds to what’s there, so importing the same dates twice doubles them, and imports can’t be undone. Vireo stops an import before the day its own data begins and asks before importing dates again. See Importing your history.
Rank Math’s or WooCommerce’s MCP connection stopped working
Rank Math, and WooCommerce with its MCP feature on, serve their own tools through the MCP Adapter’s shared endpoint at /wp-json/mcp/mcp-adapter-default-server. Vireo Analytics 0.12.4 and earlier switched that endpoint off, so those plugins’ MCP connections stopped answering once Vireo was active. Update to 0.12.5 or later: Vireo now leaves the shared endpoint alone whenever another plugin uses the adapter, and only turns it off on sites where nothing but Vireo does. Vireo’s own endpoint at /wp-json/vireo-analytics/mcp isn’t affected either way. See Connect Claude or Cursor to your site.
Site Health messages
Vireo adds a test to Tools, Site Health called “Vireo Analytics is recording visits”. When everything works, it passes and says the recording job is scheduled, ran recently, and your reports are up to date. Otherwise the title changes to “Vireo Analytics has stopped recording visits”, a critical issue, or “Vireo Analytics is recording, with something worth checking”, a recommendation. Under it, each problem is listed with what Vireo found:
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| The job that records visits is not scheduled | Views are reaching the server but nothing moves them into your reports. Deactivate and reactivate the plugin. |
| Visits have not been recorded yet | Normal for a few minutes after installing. If it stays, the recording job isn’t running. |
| Visits stopped being recorded | The job last ran more than 15 minutes ago; it should run every minute. Views since then are kept on the server and counted once it runs again. Check that WordPress’s scheduled tasks, or your host’s server cron, are running. |
| The database is refusing writes | Saving views failed, with the database’s own error. It turns critical after five failed attempts. |
| Some visits could not be saved | Vireo set aside batches of views after repeated database errors. The views are still on the server. |
| Visits are piling up without being saved | Views have been waiting on the server for more than 30 minutes without reaching your reports. |
| The data folder is missing, or isn’t writable | Vireo keeps incoming views in wp-content/uploads/vireo-analytics until they’re saved, about once a minute. Without that folder, or permission to write to it, views are lost as they arrive. Check the folder’s permissions. |
| The reporting tables are missing | Deactivate and reactivate the plugin to create them. |
| No visits recorded yet | Expected on a new install or a site with no traffic since activation. |
| Nothing has been recorded for a while | The most recent day with data is two or more days ago. On a site with regular traffic, recording has stopped. |
If WordPress’s scheduled tasks are switched off with DISABLE_WP_CRON, the test says so but still passes, because most managed hosts run them from the server instead. Recording depends on that continuing.
Tools, Site Health, Info also has a Vireo Analytics section listing the result of every check. Copy it into a support request.
